Recruit Jim Douglas (XX) “Pushing my physical limits 5 times a week (at The Original Boot Camp and Jump School) helped me be a better father, husband and provider. Confidence is an amazing word! And SELF RESPECT is the start of any great personal achievement. ”
Is it harder to find motivation for exercise when you don’t need to lose any weight? Being light is not necessarily a product of health - stress from everyday life, parenting, work, family, all can contribute to stress. Stress can contribute to light weight, and the almost invisible health risks. A lack of muscle mass, especially core muscle mass leads to activity injuries due to stress on ligaments and joints. I think that being overweight doesn’t necessarily mean being out of shape, and being thin doesn’t necessarily mean being in shape! Even though I may look lean, getting fitter and feeling stronger improved my self esteem and ability to perform at work. My focus and concentration level on difficult issues all have improved and I am more diligent and determined, without giving up.
What have been the best personal gains you have experienced? Definitely self respect. I have respect for myself because I took the step to begin a consistent exercise routine. Social activities are in everything we do, work, home, family, recreation; therefore you need self respect and confidence to present yourself and gain the respect of others. Finding your limits of physical exercise is one of the most basic traits of human nature. I have since crossed that boundary of what I thought personally not physically possible, which has been one of the most satisfying moments, and once I got that feeling, wow, so much of what I once thought not possible, changes. Confidence is an amazing word, arguably the most used, yet misunderstood, and underrated cliché in sports. SELF RESPECT is the start of any great personal achievement.
